The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan (U-M) has a rich tradition of engineering education and research. Our top-ranked department has world-renowned faculty, successful alumni, and the best and brightest students working to create new ways to use data to tackle some of society’s most important challenges. Our approach to education emphasizes critical thinking and active learning to develop the engineers and leaders of tomorrow.
In U-M IOE, faculty and students work together to create new ideas that extend the frontiers of science and engineering. Many of these activities are interdisciplinary, taking advantage of the outstanding resources Michigan Engineering and the University at large have to offer. U-M IOE students develop life-long skills that can carry them to careers that can impact sectors of the economy including energy, finance, health, manufacturing, robotics, transportation and more.
