Juan-Alberto Estrada-Garcia, a PhD student in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan (U-M), has been awarded a 2025 U-M Institute for Energy Solutions (IES) Graduate and Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Juan Estrada
Estrada-Garcia is one of thirteen recipients selected for this fellowship. This fellowship aims to create interdisciplinary research solutions to today’s most pressing energy challenges.
Estrada-Garcia was selected for his work in power system operations amidst wildfires and infrastructure monitoring-related research. His research is in collaboration with Siqian Shen and Ruiwei Jiang, both U-M IOE professors. Their research focuses on developing models and algorithms to address stochastic optimization problems within applications such as energy infrastructure. Through this fellowship, he will collaborate with experts in engineering and energy fields to refine his work in energy resilience.
“This fellowship will allow me to share my research and ideas with experts from other disciplines that have the same goal as me,” said Estrada-Garcia. “The goal to improve the current state of energy solutions.”
Estrada-Garcia is a third-year PhD student in U-M IOE. He holds an MS in Industrial and Operations Engineering from U-M and a BS in Engineering Management from the University of Monterrey, Mexico. Juan’s mentor is Siqian Shen who also carries an appointment at the U-M Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
