On Thursday, April 7, 2023 students, faculty, and staff from the Univerisity of Michigan Industrial and Operations Engineering (U-M IOE) Department came together to celebrate the accomplishments of their graduating graduate students at the Michigan League. This spring 67 students graduated from the U-M IOE PhD and master’s program. Many of whom were honored with awards.
Zhongzhu Chen awarded a Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship
Chen received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Data Science as well as a minor in economics from Peking University, in 2019. Chen’s research interests surround mixed-integer programming, large-scale optimization, information theory, and machine learning.
Leonora Lucaj wins the Outstanding Advisor Award
U-M Industrial and Operations Engineering undergraduate program advisor has been awarded the Outstanding Advisor Award from the Advising Council at the University of Michigan. The award, established in 2002, recognizes staff for outstanding academic advising.
University of Michigan’s Amy Cohn wins Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year Award
This award recognizes the outstanding contributions and dedication exhibited by the faculty from Michigan’s 15 public universities who had a significant impact on undergraduate learning through activities such as instruction, research, experiential learning, and mentoring.
Jacqueline Hannan awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship to further neonatal ventilation research
U-M IOE PhD student Jacqueline Hannan has been awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship from the NSF. The purpose of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is to ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States.
Joi Mondisa receives U-M College of Engineering Monroe-Brown Foundation Education Excellence Award and a National Academies appointment
In Joi Mondisa’s NSF CAREER and research grants, she examines STEM mentoring practices and programs. She also investigates mentoring frameworks and ecosystems that support the leveraging of resources and building of synergies and best practices.
U-M IOE Professor Nadine Sarter elected to the National Academies Board of Human-Systems Integration
BOHSI provides new perspectives on theoretical and methodological issues concerning the relationship of individuals and organizations to technology and the environment; identifies critical issues in the design, test, evaluation, and use of new human-centered technologies; and advises sponsors on the research needed to expand the scientific and technical bases for designing technology to support the needs of its users.
