Undergraduate project funding

The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan (U-M) has funding available for undergraduate students participating in educational activities up to $500 per student, per event.

At the time of the event, you are requesting funding for you must be:

  • A current IOE undergraduate student.
  • Presenting at a conference, attending a conference, or participating in an educationally relevant project domestically or internationally.

We encourage any students meeting the above criteria to apply by the deadlines below. If requests would exhaust the available funds, preference will be given to students who have not been given past funding, and then in order of application receipt.

We do not award funds to cover expenses for experiences students are being paid for, such as paid internshipsor for expenses covered by other funding

  • Spring and summer terms (May-August): May 1
  • Fall term (September-December): Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
  • Winter term (January-April): Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

All applicants will be notified of the funding decision within one week of submission for the fall and winter terms. Students will be notified by May 15 for the spring and summer terms.

  • Students must submit receipts to be reimbursed.
    • Detailed information will be communicated if you are awarded funds. You may be reimbursed for expenses already incurred before the event (ex. flight).
  • Students receiving funding must write a brief thank you note to the donor explaining how this funding helped further your IOE education.
