Energy and Sustainability
Energy utilization and sustainability are linked through their influence on communities, climate change, and economics. Exploring how various sources of sustainable energy like wind and solar interact with traditional sources of energy leads to complex and societally important decisions for the public and private sector.
This area includes:
Power Systems: Creating effective and resilient power systems for businesses and consumers by improving the prediction accuracy and monitoring of variables related to adverse weather events, energy consumption, and other environmental factors and by providing cost-effective generation planning of power grid assets.
Alternative Energy Sources: Improving the efficiency and economic viability of new technologies that enable the long term viability of sustainable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
Sustainable Communities: Developing sustainable and resilient communities by measuring social equity, building economically attractive communities, and studying how natural disasters change individual and communal behavior.
