What do you look for when hiring early career professionals?
We do hire a lot of IOE students; there are two qualities we look for. The first important part of their skillset is being deep in the engineering mindset but also being a practical problem solver – thinking about what really works in the real world and being willing to go where things really happen to find the answer. The second is cross-disciplinary cooperation. How do you make sure you’re a connector, making sure that you’re willing to talk and bring the whole team together.
Why do you love your job in consulting?
On one hand, it allows me to do innovative things with very large companies and drive impact; I think the impact is important. On the other hand, they allow me to navigate what I learned here at IOE but to connect to all the other disciplines of engineering because what I typically do is I have data science and computer engineering, but tie them back into improving the business performance and process which is core IOE. When they come together, it’s very powerful.
