PEOPLE:

At the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Annual Meeting on October 20-23, the U-M INFORMS chapter and Ruiwei Jiang, U-M Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) assistant professor, were awarded for their contributions to the field of operations research and the management sciences.

INFORMS at U-M wins the 2019 INFORMS Student Chapter Annual Award

The INFORMS Student Chapter at U-M won the 2019 INFORMS Student Chapter Annual Award at the summa cum laude level. This award is presented to exceptional student chapters each year to recognize their achievements and to motivate them to perform well. INFORMS at U-M has received the Student Chapter Annual Award each year since 2013. This is the first year the chapter has received the award with the highest possible distinction at the summa cum laude level.

Ruiwei Jiang receives the JFIG Best Paper Award

Jiang received the Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Best Paper Award, which is given to junior faculty INFORMS members whose research papers stand out for their topics, their research approaches, and the significance of their research contribution. The award is designed to encourage research among junior faculty and increase the visibility of research conducted by junior faculty.

Ruiwei Jiang is an assistant professor in U-M IOE. His research is centered on discrete optimization under uncertainty, and aims to develop data-enabled stochastic optimization (DESO) models and solution methodology that bring together data analytics, integer programming, stochastic programming, and robust optimization. The applications of his research include power and water system operations as well as healthcare operations. Jiang co-authored his winning paper with Yuanyuan Guo, a former U-M IOE PhD student.

“We are honored to receive this recognition and very thankful for the work of the review committee,” Jiang said. “We were also very excited to present this work in a JFIG session of the INFORMS Annual Meeting.”
