Steimle was one of 50 PhD student participants from the Doctoral Colloquium who presented posters describing their thesis research. The competition was judged by faculty from a mix of disciplines within industrial and systems engineering such as operations research, ergonomics and manufacturing.

“Being recognized for my poster was icing on the cake after a great experience at the IISE Doctoral Colloquium,” said Steimle.

PhD student, Xubo Yue, was a finalist in the Quality Control and Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Best Student Paper Competition. His paper explored improving the joint model by introducing a flexible non-parametric random effect model and a variational inference framework.

Associate Professor Eunshin Byon received an honorable mention in the IISE Transactions Focused Issue on Quality and Reliability Engineering Best Paper Competition with the paper “A sparse partitioned-regression model for nonlinear system–environment Interactions.”

IISE is an international, nonprofit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training, research, and development of industrial and systems engineering.
