Gian is interested in applying stochastic modeling, optimization, and statistical methodologies to problems in medical decision-making. His primary research focuses on informing concussion management decisions with the goal of improving patient health outcomes by creating and analyzing data-driven, multi-agent models which incorporate patient behavior through self-reported symptoms. Gian also has ongoing research in other areas of healthcare, such as in the detection of glaucoma progression and the optimal design of coinsurance rates for prescribed medication.
In addition, Gian is a recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the Rackham Merit Fellowship. He has also received an Honorable Mention in the Ford Foundation Fellowship Predoctoral Competition for his commitment to diversity and inclusion. He currently serves as the Vice President of INFORMS at the University of Michigan.
