Title: Constrained Modeling of Experimental Data in Biofabrication

Abstract: Biofabrication is an emerging research field. Experimental data are often collected to understand the relationship between process parameters and product properties in this field. A special consideration in analyzing this type of data is that expert knowledge needs to be accommodated to make results meaningful. This talk will discuss two studies on statistical modeling of experimental data in biofabrication applications, where different types of expert knowledge are incorporated in the form of constraints. In one study, a constrained Gaussian process model is developed for biodegradation prediction in tissue-engineered scaffold fabrication, and in the other study we propose a constrained varying-coefficient model for hydrogel property modeling in 3D printing of soft tissues.
Biography: Li Zeng is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department of Texas A&M University. She received her B.S. in Precision Instruments and M.S. in Optical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, and M.S. in Statistics and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining Texas A&M, she was a faculty in the Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering Department of the University of Texas at Arlington. Her research interests are systems informatics and quality control in complex manufacturing and healthcare delivery systems. Her research is supported by national agencies such as NSF and NIH. She is a recipient of the Best Application Paper Award and Best Paper Award of IISE Transactions. She is a member of INFORMS and IISE, and serves as associate editor of IISE Transactions.
