2018 IOE Graduate School Workshop

Join us for a one-day workshop to learn about how you can launch your career and change the world with a graduate degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE)! Open to undergraduate students in their Sophomore and Junior year, and others within 1–2 years of applying to graduate programs. You do not have to be majoring in engineering to apply; students with Computer Science, Math, Physics, Statistics, and other backgrounds are welcome.

Our faculty, staff, and students will provide information about studies and careers in the field of Industrial and Operations Engineering, graduate school applications and admissions, research, life on campus, funding, and more. We will have presentations, panel discussions, and mixers for all participants.

Tentative agenda

  • 8:15 Arrive at IOE department (transportation provided)
  • 08:30–9:00 Welcome and introductions
  • 09:00–11:15 Learn about research areas of our faculty and graduate students
  • 11:15–12:00 Explore professional opportunities for IOE Ph.D. graduates
  • 12:00–1:00 Lunch with faculty, students, alumni
  • 1:00–1:30 Presentation: studying in a PhD program
  • 1:30–2:15 Presentation: PhD application and admissions
  • 2:15–3:00 Grad student panel: what application, admissions, and grad student life are like from a student’s point of view
  • 3:00-3:30 Presentation: Some advice on writing a strong statement of purpose
  • 3:30–5:00 Feedback on descriptions of research experience and interest
  • 5:00–6:30 Briefly return to hotel, tour University of Michigan campus (transportation provided)
  • 6:30–9:00 Dinner, entertainment, and continued conversations at Revel&Roll Ann Arbor
