Dennis Blumenfeld teaches the IOE undergraduate course in queueing systems. He has spent most of his career as a staff research scientist at the General Motors Research and Development Center, focusing on design and operations of manufacturing systems and logistics networks. Before joining General Motors, he held faculty positions at Princeton University and University College London. He received a B.Sc. in mathematics and M.Sc. in statistics and operations research from Imperial College London, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from University College London. He is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, and a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. Dr. Blumenfeld is author of the reference volume "Operations Research Calculations Handbook" (CRC Press, 2001). He has published articles on transportation modeling, traffic flow and queueing, logistics, inventory control, and production systems, and has served on the editorial advisory board of Transportation Research.
