Homework
Chapter problems
Four to 8 sample questions will be assigned from each chapter. These questions are inteded to help you understand the material and prepare for the projects and examinations. You are encouraged to use the other questons to prepare for the examinations. You are encouraged to work in groups. The home work will not be collected or graded, but the solutions will be posted on C-tools.
Group projects
There will be three projects that you will work on in groups of 4. Only one report will be turned in for each group. It is your responsibility to divide the work equitably and to make sure you understand all aspects of the project. Each project will each account for 10% of your grade.
Project 1: Documentation of the human-machine system and work methods analysis
You will perform an analysis of one or more jobs in a real work setting. You will describe the human-machine system, the work place layout, the work flow and the work methods. Based on your analyses you will develop recommendations for improving the job.
Project 2: Time study, predetermined time systems, standard data
You will use time study and predetermined time systems to determine normal work times.
Project 3: Allowances
You will perform time-based and event based analyses of jobs to determine the force and posture profiles to determine if and what kind of allowances are necessary to prevent localized fatigue and risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Special problems, guest lectures and site visits
There will be several problems, guest lectures and site visits. You will be asked to write short reports and turn. These will be graded as check plus, check or check minus. These reports along with class participation will account for 10% of your grade.
